The requests of the riders to the International Cycling Federation

The leaders of the International Riders' Association (CPA) met yesterday with the president of the International Cycling Union (UCI), David Lappartient, to discuss some issues that most interest the group.
Regarding the safety in the races, the International Cycling Union listened to the athletes' requests and agreed that the regulations in force should be strengthened by the end of the year, with the participation of all parties involved and concrete actions for the 2020 season. 
The CPA has assured that it will propose strong measures concerning the race organisation as safer arrivals, the traffic of the vehicles and a better communication between the different actors concerned. The aim will be to present the new safety measures at the UCI WorldTour seminar on December 10th and 11th before being put to the vote of the UCI Management Committee.
Another priority for the riders is the use of their sensitive data, of which they are the only owners. «At the Professional Cycling Council, we already asked the other stakeholders to work together on a regulation in this regard. The world of e-sports opens new perspectives for all, but as it is a new reality, it requires ad hoc regulations. Riders must be able to choose whether or not to allow their protected data to be used by their teams, the International Federation and the organizers and, when possible, to get economic benefit from it» explains the CPA President Gianni Bugno. UCI is ready to act to protect the personal data of the athletes as requested by the CPA, within the framework of the working group dedicated to the organization of the new discipline. CPA and AIGCP are also establishing new rules to this respect in the joint agreement.
The UCI President and his staff also agreed on the need expressed by the CPA to review the global prize money of the races, which has not changed for too many years.
