CPA WOMEN to increase professional women's cycling

from 05/02/21

Yesterday, the Union Cycliste Internationale made official its support for the CPA WOMEN, the association that brings together the world's elite female cyclists. Like all sporting federations in their own spheres of competence, the UCI supports the various components of the cycling family, distributing a fair contribution to athletes, teams (Unio for women and Aigcp for men) and organisers (Aiocc).

«We are grateful to the UCI which, by pursuing its policy of developing women's cycling, has added the CPA Women to the other professional associations that benefit from economic aid. Thanks to this contribution, our association will be able to participate with its delegates in a greater number of events and be increasingly in contact with organisers, teams and national federations. Above all, however, I believe that this is the recognition by the UCI of the work that the association does in less developed countries» says Alessandra Cappellotto, coordinator of the CPA WOMEN.

The CPA WOMEN aims to create new national associations, starting in countries where women's cycling is less developed or, worse, where cycling is not designed for women. «This is where CPA WOMEN best expresses its social intentions: the growth of women through sport, because sport means integration and emancipation - Cappellotto continues. - CPA WOMEN represents champions and athletes of every level, talks and collaborates with the major organisers, has meetings with important personalities, but I have no doubt in stating that every ambassador of CPA WOMEN is proud every time we manage to obtain a residence permit for an athlete from an emerging country or when we manage to send useful material to less fortunate colleagues».

The women's section of the CPA, created in 2017 and already present in 18 countries, in order to make women's cycling more and more professional is collaborating not only with UCI, but also with all the stakeholders in the world of two wheels, from the World Tour and Continental teams, to the organisers of the most prestigious races on the international calendar, among which stands out ASO, which will give life to the women's Tour de France 2022.
