The proposals of the riders for the safety at the races
from 12/10/20
Tomorrow a working group organised by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) will meet to discuss the safety at the races. The riders will put forward many topics listed in a document produced by the Professional Riders’Association (CPA). Unfortunately, there have been many accidents in the last races and a consequent discussion on the regulations, which should be reviewed and updated, as the union led by Gianni Bugno has requested for years.
The points highlighted by the peloton in the tomorrow’s meeting will be presented by Pascal Chanteur and Laura Mora, vice president and general secretary of the CPA and the riders Philippe Gilbert and Matteo Trentin. They will ask for changes in the regulation of: race courses, barriers, arches, safety signs, feed zones, the last 3 km of the race, arrivals, safety distance that cars, motorcycles and helicopters must keep from the riders, medical protocol.
«We are confident that the discussion with the other stakeholders will lead to a modification of the regulations to ensure greater safety in the race, which is a very urgent issue. I hope that the organizers and the UCI will listen to the proposals of the CPA and the riders, because their safety is paramount and deserves more attention » comments Gianni Bugno from the Giro d'Italia.
These are the document that the CPA will present to the Safety Working Group on the 13th of October 2020:
