CPA Women and CPA celebrate the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift from 2022
from 29/06/21
CPA Women and CPA is celebrating the double announcement of the live broadcasting of the Tour de France Femme avec Zwift by Eurovision Sport as well as Zwift’s sponsorship deal.
CPA Women is proud to have played a part by bringing riders together with race organiser Amaury Sport Organisation (ASO) to discuss their commitment to the race and to promoting it.
CPA Women has been working with ASO since 2018 to encourage them to create a full race for women riders rather than the one day Le Course, and to prove to them that the riders will support the race with their attendance and with their voices.
This has helped ASO to seek and secure broadcasting rights and sponsorship and so has shown the strength of the voice of the women’s peloton when it is brought together for a cause.
The Tour de France is one of the races riders grow up watching and dreaming about – no matter where they are from. CPA Women has been tenacious in working with ASO and the riders to show commitment to this important and exciting inclusion on the women’s tour.
CPA Women liaised with riders to get their views and we have had regular meetings with ASO which have included riders including Anna van der Breggen and Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio. This shows what we can achieve when we work together.
It’s clear that riders are excited. In Zwift’s announcement of their sponsorship, they quoted Anna van der Breggen, from UCI Women's WorldTeam SD Worx:
“This is a huge moment for professional women’s cycling. The Tour de France is the most famous race in cycling and it’s long been a dream for many of us in the women's peloton to compete in such a race. I’m hopeful that the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift will help us grow our sport even more by providing us with a media platform to take the excitement of women's cycling to new audiences.”
We welcome the ambition of organiser, ASO, to showcase women’s cycling at the highest level.
Christian Prudhomme, Director of the Tour de France said, "building an event like the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift means offering women's cycling an event that is ready to highlight the sporting qualities of some exceptional riders. The birth of this race represents the prospect of seeing a women's race rise to the top of world sport. The riders and champions will no doubt be eager to take on some tough routes and go after the most prestigious of prizes, the Yellow Jersey.”
Yann le Moënner, General Director of Amaury Sport Organisation: "We are particularly glad to launch this new women's race with a partner like Zwift, who have considerably developed cycling around the World thanks to their connected platform. We constructed a Virtual Tour de France together last year which turned out to be an immense success. Our respective teams learned to work together and now target the same objective: to develop women's cycling by introducing an unmissable event, the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift."
